There are many different ways to enjoy avocados. You can add them to smoothies, salads, spread them on toast, or use them in making sauces. My family enjoys the sauce more; hence I make it as often as I can.
The sauce can be a little spicy but flavorful and very yummy such that you’d wish to add it to anything. I hope you will try making this sauce and enjoy.
What do you need to make this sauce?
The main ingredients for making this sauce are avocados, milk, and lime—spices such as basil, onion, and garlic powder only add more flavor and taste to the sauce.
How do you make avocado sauce?
Add all the components in a blender or food processor and pulse until smooth. In the absence of a blender or food processor, mash the avocados using a masher. Add the milk or yogurt, lemon juice, and the spices and mix well. There you have your delicious sauce.
Can you refrigerate or freeze the avocado sauce, and for how long?
Yes, this homemade avocado sauce can be refrigerated for 12 hours when stored in a clean airtight freezer container or for a month using a freezer bag that has all the air pressed out, and the sauce fills the container or bag.
To thaw, place the bag or container in cold room temperature water for a few minutes.
Why does avocado sauce turn brown, and How can you prevent this?
An enzyme called polyphenol oxidase in ripe avocados, makes avocados turn brown when exposed to air or oxygen.
Therefore, it is important to eat them immediately after cutting. You can as well rub or drizzle citrus juice on a sliced avocado to keep it from browning for a while though this may only prevent browning for only a few minutes.
You can as well keep it frozen in a freezer bag in which all the air has been pressed out, especially when you intend to eat them later.
